OPACITY: Acrylics are generally more opaque, providing solid coverage. Ideal for bright and bold colors, but can also create muted palettes as well.

OPACITY: Watercolors are transparent, ideal for achieving delicate and subtle tones. Often will have a softer and more delicate appearance.

TEXTURE: Acrylic paint is perfect for creating dimensional texture on canvas. The medium body consistency allows for smooth application while retaining the ability to build up layers and create raised effects. By varying the thickness of the paint, artists can achieve a range of textures, from smooth, flowing areas to richly textured sections.

TEXTURE: Watercolor paper has a unique texture that can add depth and character to the painting; however, the paint itself does not. Textures can be created with brush strokes but are not dimensional on the paper surface.

DRYING: Acrylics dry relatively quickly, which can be helpful for artists who prefer to work in layers or want to build texture.

DRYING: Watercolors can vary in drying time depending on techniques used. Overall, dries quickly and experienced artist will know how to work in sections for efficiency.

LAYERS/CHANGES: Makes it really easy to add couple after completing the background. Can easily add on top of design or make changes if needed. For blending, need to work efficiently to blend colors due to quick drying time, not as flawless as with watercolor.

LAYERS/CHANGES: Cannot paint over background or make changes once paint is down, position of couple and composition must be all done at beginning. However, watercolors are known for their ability to layer and blend seamlessly. Can achieve a wide range of tones by layering multiple washes of color.

DURABILITY: Acrylic paintings on canvas are often more durable and resistant to fading.

DURABILITY: Watercolors are generally considered more delicate, and the use of watercolor paper means the artwork will need framing to protect it over time.

FRAMING: Optional. Acrylic paintings on canvas, especially those on 1.5-inch depth canvases, offer more versatility when it comes to framing. The thicker canvas provides a contemporary and finished look even without a frame. However, framing is still an option and can add a polished touch to the artwork, particularly in more traditional settings. Will usually cost a bit more than watercolor framing due to raised surface of canvas.

FRAMING: Watercolor paintings

typically require framing under

glass to protect the delicate

surface and prevent exposure to

environmental elements. Matting

is often used to create a buffer

between the artwork and the

glass, preserving the paper's

integrity. Can find both affordable framing at $20-50 or expensive framing if done by a professional with ornate frame.
